Peter R. Ginsberg

Formerly an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of New York, Peter represents clients in a range of white-collar criminal, securities, and civil matters, including cases involving marketing practices and insider trading, money laundering, fraud, bribery, tax evasion, antitrust violations, RICO and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. He also has extensive experience handling trials and investigations (internal, governmental and regulatory).

Peter also has an active practice representing parties in high profile sports litigation and disputes. His clientele includes well-known players and coaches in all major sports leagues and organizations. By way of example, Peter represented NFL linebacker Jonathan Vilma in the New Orleans Saints “bounty” cases; running back Ray Rice in his successful challenge to Commissioner Roger Goodell’s disciplinary authority; and two Minnesota Vikings players in the “StarCaps” litigation that involved a groundbreaking challenge to the NFL’s efforts to circumvent state law protection for employees. Peter also has handled a variety of matters, including litigation, intellectual property and endorsements for several athletes, including basketball star Kawhi Leonard, golfers Vijay Singh and Patrick Reed, tennis star Madison Brengle, former NFL wide receiver and current commentator Michael Irvin and former NHL standout Slava Fetisov; and has worked to protect the rights of college coaches and student-athletes, including Hall of Famers Larry Brown and Les Miles, with regard to NCAA actions and university oversight. Peter represents sports agencies and agents as well.

Because of his involvement in so many newsworthy cases, Peter has often been mentioned or quoted in a variety of media outlets includingUSA Today, Sports Illustrated, CNBC, ESPN, NBC, CBS, Yahoo Lifestyle, The National Law Review, Law 360 and New York Law Journal, and is a frequent lecturer at law schools around the country.

  • Obtained US Court of Appeals reversal of jury verdict in action brought by the SEC based upon procedural irregularities committed by trial judge
  • Obtained dismissal of racketeering and usury allegations in the SDNY on behalf of hedge funds
  • Obtained dismissal of federal and state racketeering allegations brought against top official at major institution of higher education
  • Obtained non-prosecution from DOJ following two-year securities investigation of financial manager
  • Multiple favorable decisions on behalf of professional athletes following judicial challenges to League and Commissioner disciplinary sanctions
  • Obtained favorable settlement of civil rights and gender discrimination lawsuit brought by head varsity sports coach against Division I institution of higher learning
  • Obtained favorable resolution of settlement on behalf of professional golfer in action brought against PGA
  • Obtained favorable civil rights jury verdict following three-month trial against five state and city law enforcement agencies
  • Obtained plea agreement for client charged with federal espionage crimes and facing death penalty
  • Succeeded in forcing professional tennis organizations to change its drug testing procedures on behalf of world-ranked tennis player
